Protection Training
Guard dog training done right isn't about creating an aggressive animal — it's about building a dog with the confidence, control, and discernment to protect when it matters and stand down when it doesn't.
At Canine Calmer, protection training always starts with obedience. A dog that won't reliably sit, stay, and come has no business doing protection work. We build the foundation first, then layer in protection skills methodically and safely.
The result is a dog that is a genuine asset to your safety — not a liability. Calm in public, alert at home, and completely under your control at all times.
What We Train
Our Approach
Control First, Always
A protection dog that can't be called off is a liability. Every skill is built on a foundation of rock-solid obedience and handler control.
Situational Awareness
We train dogs to read their environment, identify genuine threats, and respond appropriately — not reactively.
Reliable On/Off Switch
The dog must be able to engage on command and stand down on command. Both are equally important and trained with equal rigor.
Temperament Assessment
Not every dog is suited for protection work. We assess each dog honestly and only proceed when the temperament is right.
Important Note
Guard dog and protection training is a serious undertaking. We conduct a thorough temperament evaluation before beginning any protection work. Not all dogs are candidates — and that's okay. We'll give you an honest assessment and recommend the right path forward.
